I’ve had 10+ tattoo removal treatments on a small tattoo (black ink) on the upper part of my thigh. Skin is still itchy months Later. Is that normal?

Sometimes my skin will form like a random weird bump in the region where I had treatments. I still have a few more to go. Should I continue? My complexion is darker, more of a dark tan complexion so the laser has taken away some of my pigment and it looks splotchy. Is the random itchiness and occasional bump normal? Should I continue until the tatto is gone? Also I was worried about developing some type of skin cancer if I continue, is that possible? Thank you!

Thanks for your inquiry.
There is normally two reasons for itchy reaction after a laser tattoo removal. First could be the effect of laser on breaking down the ink particles which enables the microscopic fragments to get eliminated by your normal metabolic and lymphatic drainage system which is normal, and the second reason could be the inappropriate type and energy of the laser emitted on your tattoo which may cause the skin to aggravate, irritate, injury and causing hypertrophic or keloid scarring known as little raised tissue bump over the tattoo. If that's the case I highly suggest to contact a board certified dermatologist to asses the skin and offer you the proper advice such as applying a steroid cream to reduce the itch and side effects. Good luck.

I had my 3 laser tattoo removal session before 2, 5 weeks, but unlike previous times, it hasn't been healed yet and it looks like a brown smudge. My doctor said that the laser had to go deeper this time so the burning was deeper. I'm scared, is it normal?
