How long does the laser tattoo removal take on a large tattoo?

For a large tattoo, as long as the patient can get through the painful process, we would treat the whole area at the same time. If it is your upper back, it's likely to be in the 20-45 minute range.

Large tattoos are best treated in sections. Depending upon how large and complex a tattoo is, it is too much to tolerate the treatment (with or without local anesthetic) and too much for the body to handle. We typically would treat a large section over about a 40-minute period and have the patient return in about a week to treat other areas. Without seeing your tattoo, we would probably do this in 2 sessions. Tattoos take multiple treatments--somewhere between 6 and 15--and healing is very individual. The tattoo ink is pulled out through your body, as the laser only explodes the ink molecules. Hence, the number of treatments varies from one person to another and there is no way to estimate how many treatments.

Do you mean how many treatments does it take or how many minutes per
session? The range for the number of tattoo removal treatments required
normally varies between 5-15. The time associated with a treatment is
normally between 5-45 minutes with only the largest tattoos (full back)
requiring 45 minutes or so. The treatments can be split up if there is
too much discomfort for the patient.
