Removed Tattoos: Do They Scar?

Getting body art used to have a very scandalous connotation to it. Generally, in American society, body art was gotten only by people who were in gangs or who had been in prison. Times have definitely changed now, and body art is something that millions of Americans get.

However, for every tattoo that a person gets, there are also removed tattoos. People end up with removed tattoos for many different reasons. For example, if a person is in a relationship, a relationship that they believe will last forever, sometimes they get a tattoo that includes their boyfriend or girlfriend's name. When the relationship ends, so does the life of the tattoo.

Removed tattoos come about only after a series of laser treatments. When a person gets a tattoo, ink is injected into the upper layers of the skin. The laser treatments penetrate these layers, in effect removing the top layers so that only clear skin remains below. Of course, these treatments have to be done gradually, because otherwise the patient would be left with raw, bleeding skin.

Do removed tattoos scar the skin? Ideally they shouldn't, but that doesn't stop some cases of scarring from happening. If a person is only getting a small tattoo, it only makes sense that the chances of scarring would be a lot less than if the person was getting rid of a larger tattoo. However, the skin will be considerable lighter where the tattoo was. So, if you're thinking about getting a tattoo, make sure that it's something you really want.
