Every year during the Holiday season thousands of loud, obnoxious, newly-legal, viciously drunk recent high school graduates – schoolies – from all parts of Australia head to the Gold Coast for a 2 weeks of pure bliss, alcohol and inebriated nights. However, the one thing kids who made it out of schoolies sober do remember is their heinous tattoo. A large number of the drunk Aussies end up getting tattoos they regret shortly after they sober up. Which is why Christmas time, post-schoolies, is the busiest time for
tattoo removal clinics in Australia. Sheepishly the kids enter into a clinic and remove the marks of their 2-week drunk-fest.
Besides of course the drunken stupor of getting a tattoo, many schoolies opt for some body ink because it is the first sign of their coming of age – newfound freedom from parents, school and pressure. Though soon thereafter the same newly liberated 18-year-olds are frightened to death of Mum and Dad and rush to the closest and cheapest removal clinic. So this year schoolies, instead of dousing your bodies with tattoos you'll either hate or never remember, try henna or just stick to drinking.
