Tattoo Removal May Be Safer Than Tattoos

We frequently hear about the major differences between getting a tattoo put on to your body and getting a tattoo removed from your body. The main things that we hear are that it's easier, cheaper and slightly less painful to get the tattoo in the first place that it is to get tattoo removal. That's why it's always recommended that you avoid tattoo regret in the first place by not getting bad tattoos. But there's also another difference between the two that places tattoo removal in a better light. That's the fact that laser tattoo removal may actually be a safer procedure than getting a tattoo put on.

The reason that this difference exists is because laser tattoo removal is regulated to a large degree. First of all, FDA approval is required for the makers of laser tattoo removal machinery. Secondly, there are some regulations in place to monitor the use of laser tattoo rmoval equipment and to make sure that consumers are getting this kind of work done from qualified tattoo removal specialists.

In contrast, there aren't so many regulations in place for the making of tattoo inks. The FDA has only recently started regulating these inks after concerns that people have been getting toxic chemicals tattooed into their body for many years. You can learn more about this issue from this Staten Island Advance article which discusses pending legislation about tattoo inks and the important issue of who should be responsible for making sure that they are safe.

Ultimately, it's always better to make wise choices and avoid regrets. That goes for not getting bad tattoos so that you can avoid tattoo removal. However it's good to know that the regulations on tattoo removal have made it a procedure which is safe for those who do get tattoos that they decide they don't want later.

Question of the Day: How safe do you think tattoos really are?
